Mental Health Act.

What: Based on the recommendations in the 1957 Percy Commission, this replaced the Lunacy and Mental Treatment Acts (1890 and 1930) and the Mental Deficiency Acts (1913 and 1938).

Why significant: Aimed to ‘deinstitutionalise’ mental health patients and provide more community care instead of people being placed and treated in psychiatric hospitals.
